We consider 30 percent of net salary spent on rent as the housing affordability threshold. Data on rental offers for 2023–2024 are combined to smooth out trends. Neighbourhoods with limited data are shaded to indicate lower significance. In-place rents are based on the 2022 census. Median net wages (full-time, excluding trainees, including special payments) are provided for selected occupations in Berlin, such as elementary school teachers, trained nurses, elderly care assistants, street cleaners, police officers, paramedics, doctors without specialist training, and pre-school teachers. Net salary income was calculated by deducting income tax (class 1) and social security contributions, without any further assumptions (e.g., no church tax).
